Couldn't put it down...
By Gilbert's
I wasn't a fan of this genre until I read Luke Romyn's first book in this series-Beyond Hades. I couldn't put it down and was strangely disappointed when it ended that it was over, When I learned Mr Romyn was writing the next book, I found myself anxious and hoping it would be as good/better than the original...the wait was well worth it! When I bought it this morning, I couldn't put it down until I finished it. To me, if I can lose myself in the story, that is a great read...I won't do a spoiler, you'll just have to read it yourself, but will say well done and thank you, Mr Romyn, may you continue writing forever. -Diane Gilbert

Constant surprises
By Adina
Having read Beyond Hades, I thought I was prepared for Slaves of Valhalla. Not quite. This follow-up has the plot twists, the sometimes insane pace, and of course all of Wes's craziness that I learned to expect from his and Talbot's previous adventures. But this has even more! Right up to the final pages, the surprises are so constant that I found myself commenting out loud, "oh, that's not good," or "noooo!" or just sighing with relief. The utter unpredictability throughout the book really made the last surprise more earth-shattering. I wish I could say I saw it coming, but all I could do was shake my head and smile. And of course, start breathing again!

Have to say I'm a bit disappointed in this one...
By Kristy
I LOVED Beyond Hades so I was eagerly awaiting the next book, Slaves of Valhalla. As much as it pains me to say it, I'm a little disappointed with the sequel. Romyn still does a fantastic job of illustrating his mythical world through words and the content is as creative as ever. However, this book just didn't capture me like the first one did. I found the action a bit disjointed and it has less of an "epic" feel than Beyond Hades. The storyline, while interesting and unique, lacks a smooth flow. My biggest gripe is the change in the characterization of Wes. He was AWESOME in the first book; in the second he seems like an immature, teenage boy. Somewhere between the first book and the second, the things that made Wes endearing were overdone - now he's just annoying.
I very much appreciate Romyn's creativity and humor so I still found the book enjoyable. Unfortunately, it felt like a really good first draft rather than a finished product. Should he decide to continue with the series, I'll probably give the next book a try but I must admit I won't be eagerly awaiting it like I was the Slaves of Valhalla.
